What to expect

  1. 01

    1:00 PM

    Sign-up building opens

Sign up for one event or both. Sign-up stays open until each live auction. Daylight practice runs on the honor system at $8; there are no white target practice traps.

  2. 02

    2:00 PM

    Fast Eddie Slider auction

The Fast Eddie Calcutta. $20 of every $80 entry goes into the pool, paid 50/30/20 on the top three, split 50/50 between buyer and shooter, $10 minimum bid. The club adds $200 to this auction.

  3. 03

    After the auction

Event 1: the Fast Eddie Slider

100 slider targets shot as four 25-target sub-events. Squads are set by ATA handicap yardage with no more than two yards between squadmates. Trap one from the 16, trap two from the 20, trap three from the 22, and the last trap from your established ATA earned yardage.

  4. 04

    5:30 PM

    Meal and Halloween Handicap auction

The meal goes on the line for shooters and guests, then the Shooter's Fun Calcutta for the Halloween Handicap. Same money: 50/30/20 on the top three, 50/50 buyer and shooter, $10 minimum bid. Squad 1 has to be ready to shoot before the auction ends.

  5. 05

    Right after the auction

    Event 2: the Halloween Handicap

Squad 1 goes straight to trap 1. 100 non-registered ATA-style handicap targets, 25 per trap, all white targets, under the lights.

Fast Eddie Slider, $80

Targets, Calcutta, Lewis

$80 covers your 100 slider targets, the $20 Calcutta buy-in, and the $10 Lewis purse buy-in. The club adds $200 to the Fast Eddie auction.

Halloween Handicap, $100

Targets, meal, Calcutta, Lewis

$100 (7% Iowa sales tax included) covers your 100 handicap targets, the meal for you and your guests, the $20 Calcutta buy-in, and the $20 Lewis purse buy-in.

Auction + Lewis purse

How the money moves

  • Calcutta, both events: top three pay 50 / 30 / 20 percent of the pool. Buyer and shooter split 50 / 50. $10 minimum bid.
  • Lewis purse, both events: three classes, one money each. The top three scores are moved out first, and the top Lewis class is figured on the fourth-high score, below the auction money.

The fine print

Rules of the day

  • Halloween Handicap yardage is set four ways: your current ATA yardage, known ability, past wins, or a combination. One yard is added for each time you have won or tied the Halloween Handicap. Minimum yardage is the 20.
  • Fast Eddie squads run by ATA handicap yardage with no more than two yards' difference, and known ability may apply. Non-ATA shooters are squadded at the 22-yard line.
  • The Halloween Handicap is limited to approximately 120 entries.
  • Check your score after each five targets on every post, and check the board. Errors are corrected when found.
  • All payout checks are mailed to the money winners. Payoff sheets post to this website after the shoot.
  • You or your representative can pick up trophies any time up to one year after the event.
  • Entries and options can be refunded if you did not shoot.
  • ATA rules govern the shooting. Entering the grounds is agreeing to them, along with the ear and eye protection and open-or-out rules.
  • Close your gun so it never points at the voice release equipment. Cords are $75 and the control box is $400. Shoot it, you may own it.
  • Golf carts stay south of the main sidewalk and off the sidewalk during events. No carts in front of the brick clubhouse.
  • Pets stay out of the clubhouse. No smoking in any building or under any awning.
  • Use your shell bag. It costs the club to pick up empties.
  • Management may move squads to balance the trap line at any time.

Plan accordingly

Raining, snowing, cold, windy. Come prepared.

The Halloween Handicap is held regardless of weather. Dress for what late October in central Iowa actually is. The program can be altered for conditions beyond the club's control, and the club is not responsible for accidents, theft, or the weather. Most important: we are glad you are here.
